Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has officially launched a nationwide tour as part of his ambitious bid for the presidency in the 2027 general election. The outspoken and youthful lawmaker made the announcement just days after revealing his intentions to run for the top seat under a new political movement that he says will challenge the status quo.
Speaking in Busia County during the first stop of his tour, Salasya said the movement yet to be officially named aims to steer Kenya away from what he termed “traditional politics driven by tribal alliances and money.” Instead, he envisions a political revolution led by young people, rooted in transformative leadership and economic empowerment.
“Today, I embark on my ambitious countrywide tour to galvanise Kenya’s youth,” said Salasya during a gathering in Ogalo, Busia County. “This marks a pivotal moment in my grassroots mobilisation strategy, rallying young Kenyans under a bold vision that places their future at the centre of national discourse.”
The first-time MP has increasingly positioned himself as a symbol of youthful defiance against entrenched political norms, frequently championing causes that resonate with Generation Z and millennials. His campaign rhetoric underscores a desire to challenge elite political circles and provide a platform for voices often marginalized in national policy.
Salasya was met with enthusiasm by local residents, many of whom turned out to welcome him. He thanked the people of Busia for their warm reception and expressed confidence in his growing support base. “The reception here shows that Kenya is ready for a youthful president who speaks the language of the people,” he remarked.
As he continues his tour across the country, Salasya is expected to engage communities, especially the youth, in discussions about governance, unemployment, and economic opportunities. Though he faces an uphill battle against more established political figures, his unorthodox approach and populist appeal are already shaking up the early political landscape ahead of 2027.
With his campaign slogan and movement still in development, all eyes will be on Salasya to see whether he can translate grassroots energy into a formidable national campaign.
