Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga has defended the growing political partnership between a section of the opposition and President William Ruto’s administration, asserting that the deal is aimed at bringing development to the Nyanza region. Speaking during a church service in Migori County, Oginga emphasized that all Kenyans, including those from Nyanza, deserve a fair share of government services because they are taxpayers.
“We will eat our shares rightfully given to us because we are taxpayers like any other Kenyan,” Oginga stated. He urged critics of the alliance to step aside and allow development to take root, highlighting that residents are eagerly waiting for improved services, not political battles.
Oginga’s remarks come amid President Ruto’s tour of the Nyanza region, a strategic outreach aimed at consolidating political support and overseeing development initiatives. The Senator stressed that the partnership with Ruto should not be viewed as betrayal but rather as a pragmatic move to ensure that the region is not left behind in national development.
Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi echoed the Senator’s sentiments, affirming that the decision to work with Ruto’s government was deliberate and based on the desire for progress. “We have been in political partnerships before, but if there is any partnership that is well guided, it is the one we have with you (Ruto),” he said, noting that the current collaboration is built on mutual respect and a clear development agenda.
Wandayi dismissed opposition from within, labeling it as misguided nostalgia for a political past that no longer serves the region’s best interests. “We are not looking back. We are in this for the long haul,” he asserted.
Other leaders present, including Treasury CS John Mbadi, Interior PS Raymond Omollo, and Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi, have also pledged their support for Ruto’s leadership.
The shift marks a significant realignment in Kenya’s political landscape, as former opposition strongholds begin to warm up to the Kenya Kwanza administration in pursuit of development and equitable resource allocation.
