Former US Vice President and renowned climate advocate Al Gore is set to visit Kenya from June 12 to 14, 2025, for an in-person training on climate change. The event, part of the 59th Climate Reality Leadership Corps training, is organized by The Climate Reality Project, which Gore founded to address the escalating climate crisis through grassroots education and advocacy.
In a press statement, Gore praised Kenya for its global leadership in clean energy and climate resilience, noting that the country stands at the forefront of the battle against climate change. “The impacts of the crisis in Kenya are having profound consequences that worsen food insecurity, increase energy burdens, and displace people from their homes,” he said. “At the same time, Kenya has become a global leader on clean energy, showing countries around the world how climate action can work at the local and national levels.”
The Nairobi training is the second major stop on the organization’s REALITY® Tour, a global initiative building momentum for bold climate action ahead of the COP30 summit in Brazil. The tour kicked off in Paris in March and includes satellite events across nine Climate Reality branches, including South Africa, Brazil, and Mongolia.
The two-and-a-half-day Nairobi event will equip participants with the latest climate science, communication tools, and advocacy skills. The training will highlight Kenya’s advances in renewable energy, resilience-building, and green industrialization. It will also focus on closing climate finance gaps and unlocking global funding to support local solutions.
Notable speakers include Wanjira Mathai of the World Resources Institute, Nyaguthii Chege of The Green Belt Movement, and Raya Ahmed Famau of the Lamu Women’s Alliance.
The Climate Reality Project aims to mobilize global citizens to demand action from leaders, especially as Kenya faces record-breaking droughts and floods. Attendees will join a global network of over 3.8 million supporters committed to accelerating the shift toward a sustainable future.
This training offers a critical opportunity for East African voices to shape the global climate dialogue and strengthen local action through knowledge, partnerships, and renewed urgency.
