The Tanzanian Parliament on Saturday honoured President Samia Suluhu Hassan with a special award, recognising her exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to national development. The ceremony, held in the country’s capital Dodoma, saw Speaker of Parliament Tulia Ackson present the honorary award on behalf of all Members of Parliament.
Speaker Ackson hailed President Hassan’s transformative leadership, applauding her for steering the country through a phase of dynamic progress and inclusive development. “Under President Hassan’s stewardship, Tanzania has undergone significant transformation,” she said, noting major strides in sectors such as education, health, mining, tourism, transportation, agriculture, energy, and international diplomacy.
The award, the Speaker emphasized, reflects the collective recognition of the legislature for the President’s efforts in championing national unity, good governance, and economic growth. The gesture marks a significant moment of solidarity between the executive and legislative arms of government, underscoring mutual respect and cooperation.
In her acceptance speech, President Hassan expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Parliament for its continued support and oversight. She acknowledged the crucial role played by lawmakers in facilitating government performance through budget deliberations, law-making, and constructive feedback.
“The Parliament has not only supported the executive but also served as a critical partner in ensuring our policies meet the expectations of Tanzanians,” Hassan said. She commended MPs for their tireless efforts in representing their constituents, adding that their input has been instrumental in shaping government priorities.
Since assuming office in March 2021, President Hassan has championed reforms aimed at fostering transparency, investment, and infrastructural development. Her leadership has also seen increased engagement with the international community, positioning Tanzania as a stable and progressive partner in the region.
The award comes at a time when President Hassan’s popularity continues to rise both domestically and abroad, with many viewing her leadership as a model for inclusive and effective governance. The special recognition by Parliament not only cements her legacy but also highlights the nation’s appreciation for her unwavering dedication to the people of Tanzania.
