AFC Leopards will be eager to secure their first win of the new season when they face the high-flying Posta Rangers in their second league match of the SportPesa League at Dandora Stadium on Friday at 4:00 PM. Under the guidance of head coach Boniface Ambani, Leopards opened their season with a 1-1 draw against Sofapaka at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, salvaging a point through Boniface Munyendo’s late equalizer. However, their second fixture against Nairobi United was postponed, giving them a 12-day break before this crucial encounter.
The extended rest period could prove to be an advantage for AFC Leopards, who are still in the process of building team chemistry with several new players. Ambani remains optimistic, urging fans to be patient as the squad finds its rhythm. “It’s still early in the season, and we have new players who are yet to fully blend and adapt to our style. With time, they’ll understand each other better. Overall, I believe we have a good team,” Ambani commented.
On the other hand, Posta Rangers, managed by Sammy Omollo ‘Pamzo,’ are off to a flying start, with back-to-back victories in their opening games. They triumphed 2-1 over Mathare United before a stunning 2-0 win against Tusker, signaling their intentions as early-season title contenders. Pamzo has credited his squad’s depth and youthful energy for their strong performances, noting that the team’s average age has dropped significantly this season. “We have competition for places in the team. I can start with one group and still have strong substitutes who can change the game. The younger players have helped us maintain intensity,” Pamzo stated.
Victory for Posta Rangers would see them solidify their position at the top of the table, while AFC Leopards are keen to make the most of their rest period and get their season on track as they chase a long-awaited league title.
Earlier at the same venue, Kakamega Homeboyz will take on Sofapaka at 1:00 PM in a match between two teams hungry for their first wins of the season. Homeboyz, who finished third last season under Francis Baraza, were held to a 0-0 draw by Mara Sugar in their opener. Sofapaka, meanwhile, have earned just a single point in two games and are reeling from a 2-0 loss to defending champions Gor Mahia. Head coach Ezekiel Akwana has emphasized the need for his side to improve in the final third. “We need to be more effective in the final third. Retaining the ball better in that area and taking our chances will be crucial,” Akwana said.
With both matches set to feature teams eager to find their footing early in the season, fans can expect an exciting doubleheader at Dandora Stadium on Friday.
