Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called on eligible Kenyans, especially the youth, to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise and ensure they are included in the electoral roll ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking in Kangema, Murang’a County, Kindiki emphasized that voter registration is the gateway to exercising one’s democratic right.
“I want to ask all the eligible voters who have not registered to do so because it is their right to vote, but they will only participate if they are registered,” he said.
At the same time, the Deputy President issued a stern warning to contractors working on government projects, particularly the Mau Mau roads in the Mt. Kenya region. He said funds had already been released and there was no excuse for delays.
“It’s unacceptable to play around with public projects. We will not entertain such,” Kindiki warned.
The DP reassured Murang’a residents that the government is keen on completing ongoing projects and rolling out new ones as promised. He highlighted several multi-billion-shilling initiatives currently underway in the county.
Among them are 23 modern markets worth Ksh.3 billion, including Karugia and Kagira in Kangema, which are nearing completion. Affordable housing projects worth Ksh.11 billion are also progressing, while Ksh.3.4 billion has been set aside for new student hostels at Murang’a University College, Murang’a Teachers College, and other technical institutions.
Additionally, Ksh.1.2 billion has been allocated for last-mile electricity connections across the county, with Kangema receiving Ksh.270 million. Road carpeting projects in Kangema have already benefited from Ksh.60 million, with an additional Ksh.80 million expected soon.
Kindiki further announced that the historic General Kago Stadium in Kangema will be upgraded to international standards, while Kangema Level 4 Hospital will be fully equipped with doctors and medical staff.
The DP urged locals to remain patient, saying the government is committed to delivering on its pledges fairly and transparently.
