President William Ruto has revoked the appointment of Charles Muriuki Njagagua as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Consolidated Bank of Kenya.
In a gazette notice dated October 3, the President stated that the revocation took effect immediately, citing powers conferred under Section 6(1)(a) of the State Corporations Act and Section 51(1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act.
“I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, revoke the appointment of Charles Muriuki Njagagua as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Consolidated Bank,” the notice read.
Njagagua, a former Mbeere North MP, was appointed to the role on February 10, 2023, shortly after losing his parliamentary seat to the current Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku in the 2022 General Election.
The revocation comes barely a month after Deputy President Kithure Kindiki unveiled Njagagua as the head of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretariat for the upcoming Mbeere North by-elections.
During the September 6 unveiling, Kindiki commended Njagagua for his unity and sacrifice, noting that he had agreed to step down in favour of Leonard Muriuki (Leo) as the UDA candidate.
“We are grateful to Njagagua for his selflessness. He will head the secretariat that will coordinate our campaign efforts across the constituency,” Kindiki said.
Meanwhile, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has appointed Kennedy Ntabo Otiso, Edward Kiplimo Bittok, and George Mokua as new board members of the Consolidated Bank.
Their appointments, effective October 3, 2025, replace Kenneth Gatheru Gatiithi, Harun Kipkemei Mosop, and Jedidah Karwitha Mwiti, whose terms have been revoked.
Mbadi confirmed that the new appointees will serve for a three-year term, marking a fresh restructuring phase within the bank’s leadership.
