Kabuchai Member of Parliament Majimbo Kalasinga has sensationally claimed that his life is in danger, alleging threats from National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula. Speaking to the press on Monday, Kalasinga said the threats stem from political differences over the ongoing Chwele Ward by-election campaigns in Kabuchai Constituency.
According to the MP, Speaker Wetang’ula allegedly made the remarks while addressing delegates at his home, suggesting that Kalasinga “would not move on to the next elections.” The statement, reportedly made in the local language, has sparked tension between the two leaders, both of whom hail from Bungoma County.
“My brother Wetang’ula, you know what is going on clearly. There has not been a single time I have called the press to address a matter as such. Give me time to deliver or the electorate will,” Kalasinga said. “You said I will not cross over to the next elections. What did you mean? Should I be in heaven or Uganda?”
The legislator has urged the government to enhance his security, saying the differences with Wetang’ula could escalate further. He also appealed to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to investigate the allegations, gather available video evidence, and ensure his safety.
At the time of publishing, Speaker Wetang’ula had not personally responded to the claims, and Kalasinga had not confirmed whether he had filed a formal police report.
In response, Ford Kenya, through Simiyu Mutaki—identified as Wetang’ula’s Personal Assistant—dismissed the accusations as politically motivated. Mutaki maintained that the party is committed to peaceful by-elections, accusing the MP of creating unnecessary alarm.
“The remarks made by the MP are quite surprising. Ford Kenya is focused on peaceful elections, and we dismiss these allegations in their entirety,” Mutaki stated, adding that Kalasinga’s occasional lapses in personal security were self-inflicted.
The unfolding dispute adds fresh tension to Bungoma’s political scene ahead of the Chwele Ward by-election.
