Former Cabinet Secretary and Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi has urged President William Ruto to rein in Kenya Kwanza leaders and supporters accused of plotting chaos ahead of the Mbeere North by-election. Speaking at a public engagement at Kirie Market on Thursday, November 13, 2025, Muturi and Devolution Empowerment Party chair Lenny Kivuti expressed concern over growing threats of political violence.
Muturi, who was rallying support for DP candidate Newton Karish, condemned reports that some Kenya Kwanza loyalists were planning to disrupt opposition rallies, particularly one expected to be attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. He highlighted that recent government meetings in Ishiara had been peaceful and insisted that similar respect must be extended to all political players.
“When they were in Ishiara, their meetings went on smoothly, and nobody interfered with them. Now some of their supporters are publicly declaring that they will cause chaos when Rigathi and Kalonzo visit. Let President Ruto tell his people to stop this. It is bad political manners,” Muturi said.
The Embu County Security Committee has already taken steps to prevent unrest, summoning four individuals who appeared in a viral video threatening to disrupt Gachagua’s visit. Authorities warned that any incitement or attempts to destabilize the constituency would not be tolerated.
Muturi stressed that Mbeere North has a long tradition of peace and coexistence despite political diversity. He called on residents to reject attempts to introduce violence into the electoral process and expressed confidence that Newton Karish’s experience and deep understanding of local issues make him the right choice for leadership.
Kivuti echoed Muturi’s concerns, describing the threats of chaos as an insult to Mbeere North’s residents. He urged voters to turn out in large numbers and elect leaders with a transformative agenda, emphasizing that real power lies in choosing leaders who can address poverty, unemployment, and underdevelopment—not in those who thrive on intimidation.
The DP and Democratic Party leaders’ warning underscores the importance of peaceful campaigns as the constituency prepares to elect its next representative.
