Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna will lead the Kenya Moja Alliance to its first public event since the passing of ODM leader Raila Odinga last month. The youthful alliance of MPs is set to converge at Magena Primary School grounds in Bomachoge Borabu Constituency, Kisii County, on Friday for a special forum titled ‘Kikao na Wajane’ (Meeting Widows).
The event, which will kick off at 11 am, aims to provide support and encouragement to widows in the community while raising funds to assist them, according to host MP Obadiah Barongo.
“Friday, before the Sabbath begins… Kisii County,” Sifuna announced on his Facebook page on Thursday, confirming his attendance and sharing a flyer promoting the initiative.
The forum will attract MPs from various political parties, reflecting the Kenya Moja Alliance’s inclusive approach. Apart from Sifuna and Barongo, attendees will include Senator Richard Onyonka, MPs Babu Owino (Embakasi East – ODM), Caleb Amisi (Sabaoti – ODM), Joshua Kimilu (Kaiti – Wiper), and Anthony Kibagendi (Kitutu Chache South – ODM). Other confirmed participants are Gathoni Wamuchomba (Githunguri – UDA), Clive Gisairo (Kitutu Masaba – ODM), Jack Omboka (Bumula – DAP-K), Majimbo Kalasinga (Kabuchai – Ford Kenya), Ojiambo Oundo (Funyula – ODM), Patrick Makau (Mavoko – Wiper), and Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni.
Although these leaders represent different political affiliations, most are linked to the broader united opposition coalition that aims to challenge President William Ruto’s re-election bid.
Anthony Kibagendi emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating, “We are going to meet one of the most vulnerable groups in our society who need genuine support from the community.”
The Kisii event marks a significant step for the Kenya Moja Alliance as it seeks to demonstrate solidarity with local communities while engaging in socially impactful initiatives. Organizers hope that the forum will inspire other leaders to support vulnerable groups across the country.
