Brussels Airlines Resumes Direct Nairobi Flights After 9 Years, Boosted by Visa-Free Regime, Say Officials

In a significant development for air travel connectivity between Kenya and Europe, Brussels Airlines has announced the resumption of direct flights between Brussels and Nairobi after a hiatus of nine years. The move comes as a welcome boost to bilateral ties and travel convenience, with officials citing the recent implementation of a visa-free regime as a key factor driving the decision.

According to reports, the direct flights between Brussels, Belgium, and Nairobi, Kenya, will operate six times a week, signaling a renewed commitment to fostering stronger economic and cultural exchanges between the two nations. The resumption of these flights marks a milestone in air travel connectivity and is expected to facilitate increased tourism, trade, and business opportunities.

Speaking on the occasion, Principal Secretary (PS) for Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities, Mr. Joseph Bitok, expressed his optimism about the positive impact of the resumed flights on Kenya’s tourism sector. He highlighted the importance of enhanced connectivity in attracting international visitors and promoting Kenya as a premier tourist destination.

“The resumption of direct flights between Brussels and Nairobi is a significant development for Kenya’s tourism sector. It will make it easier for European travelers to visit Kenya and experience our rich cultural heritage and diverse wildlife,” said PS Bitok.

Echoing similar sentiments, PS for Transport, Dr. Najib Daghar, emphasized the economic benefits of improved air connectivity between Kenya and Belgium. He noted that the direct flights would facilitate smoother trade relations and business engagements, ultimately contributing to economic growth and development in both countries.

“The increased frequency of flights between Brussels and Nairobi will strengthen trade ties and promote investment opportunities. This is a positive step towards realizing our shared goal of economic prosperity,” remarked PS Daghar.

The decision to resume direct flights between Brussels and Nairobi comes at a time when Kenya has implemented a visa-free regime for citizens of Belgium and several other European countries. This policy change aims to streamline travel procedures and encourage more visitors from Europe to explore Kenya’s attractions.

As Brussels Airlines renews its commitment to serving the Kenyan market, travelers can look forward to convenient and seamless connections between Europe and East Africa. The resumption of direct flights is poised to strengthen people-to-people ties, promote cultural exchange, and stimulate economic growth between Kenya and Belgium.
