Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has marked a significant academic milestone after graduating with a Master of Arts degree in International Relations from the United States International University–Africa (USIU). The outspoken legislator was among hundreds of students who received their degrees during USIU’s 47th graduation ceremony, held on Saturday, September 27, 2025.
In an emotional post on X, Amisi reflected on his long journey from a humble background to becoming one of the top postgraduate students.
“Twenty-five years ago, an orphaned boy walked through the gates of Starehe Boys Centre and School armed only with a padlock. This was after emerging as the top student in the Western region in the 2000 KCPE exams, and with no hope for high school fees, Starehe became the last hope,” he shared.
Amisi, who attended Sabatia Primary School before excelling in his KCPE, completed his KCSE at Starehe Boys in 2004. He later joined the University of Nairobi, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 2010.
Despite the demands of parliamentary duties and Kenya’s charged political environment, Amisi enrolled for his master’s programme at USIU. He expressed gratitude to God for guiding his journey and sustaining him through challenges.
“Today, the same boy graduates as top student in the Master of Arts in International Relations from USIU University, amidst a convoluted political environment coupled with highly demanding public service work,” he noted.
The legislator encouraged young Kenyans not to let their circumstances hold them back, emphasizing that determination and resilience can shape one’s future.
“We don’t choose where, when, and whom to be born from, but we definitely have the power to choose our own destiny. If I can do it, you can surely do it,” he encouraged.
Amisi concluded his reflections with a powerful call for national renewal, declaring that “Kenya needs a renaissance.”
