Twelve Kenyan coaches have successfully graduated from the prestigious House of Coaches Project, an elite exchange programme that symbolizes the strong and growing partnership between Kenya and the City of Miramas, France. This milestone marks a significant step in enhancing Kenya’s sports coaching capabilities through international collaboration.
The graduating group comprised nine coaches specializing in athletics, alongside three others trained in taekwondo, cycling, and strength training. These coaches, selected from local sports clubs and Kenya’s educational institutions, underwent a rigorous and immersive training programme in Miramas. During their time in France, they gained exposure to advanced coaching techniques, modern methodologies, and benefited from world-class sports facilities. They also tapped into France’s highly developed sports science ecosystem, which has been pivotal in the city’s sporting successes.
Presiding over the graduation ceremony, Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, the Creative Economy, and Sports, Salim Mvurya, lauded the coaches for their dedication, discipline, and perseverance throughout the demanding programme. “I commend the 12 coaches for their commitment and perseverance throughout this rigorous programme. The longstanding friendship between Kenya and France continues to flourish through such meaningful collaborations,” CS Mvurya stated.
He emphasized the importance of such international partnerships in fulfilling the Ministry’s mandate to identify, nurture, and expose Kenyan talent. “I am confident that the skills gained will impact thousands of young athletes back home, transforming raw potential into tangible achievement,” he added.
CS Mvurya also praised the City of Miramas for its innovative approach to integrating technology into sports development. This integration serves as a model for Kenya, where adopting similar advancements could revolutionize how sports talent is developed and managed.
The House of Coaches Project stands as a testament to the fruitful Kenya-France relations and highlights the mutual commitment to sports development. As these newly trained coaches return home, they bring with them invaluable knowledge and experience that promises to elevate the standards of coaching in Kenya, ultimately contributing to the country’s sporting excellence on the global stage.
