Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Ogamba has made a wave of new appointments and reappointments to various education councils and boards in a move aimed at strengthening governance in the sector. The appointments, captured in a gazette notice dated Friday, September 26, 2025, affect 16 individuals across multiple institutions.
At the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), Ogamba appointed Zephania Koech as a member for a four-year term. The council plays a critical role in overseeing examinations and maintaining academic integrity across the country.
The Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) council also received fresh faces, with Kennedy Otieno, Stephen Kubai, and Josephat Kemboi joining for a three-year term. Additionally, Saida Ali Aden was reappointed to the KISE council for another three years, ensuring continuity in leadership.
In further changes, the CS named eight individuals to the Board of Governors for the Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA). Those appointed include Florah Fedha, Joseph Wambua, Allan Sitima, Jenniffer Bosibori, Joseph Magudah Okhaba, and Abdijibar Sanay, all set to serve three-year terms beginning September 26, 2025.
The National Biosafety Authority also saw changes, with Lucy Rono being appointed to its Board of Directors for a three-year period.
Alongside the Education CS’s decisions, Attorney General Dorcas Oduor also made several notable appointments. She named Bernard Kipkoech Ngetich and Tom Ratemo to the Kenya School of Law (KSL) board for four years, with Ratemo designated as chairperson.
Meanwhile, at the county level, Kitui Governor Julius Malombe and Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani announced new appointments in their devolved units, signaling widespread leadership restructuring across education and legal institutions.
These appointments reflect the government’s efforts to strengthen institutional governance, enhance oversight, and align education bodies with national development priorities.
