Detectives in Nairobi are investigating a tragic incident in which a fourth-year Daystar University student died after falling from the 11th floor of a residential building in Ngara. The victim, 23-year-old Lorna Kathambi, was found lifeless on the ground floor early on Sunday, November 23, 2025, with severe head injuries.
Police said Lorna had been out with a group of university students before they moved to the apartment for a party that went past midnight. Some of those present reportedly left briefly and later returned, and neighbours complained about loud noise during the night.
Guards on duty told police they heard a loud bang and, upon checking, discovered the body lying on the ground floor. Detectives have since arrested the seven colleagues who were in the apartment at the time to help piece together what happened.
Investigators say it is still unclear whether Lorna’s fall was accidental or the result of an altercation. Her body has been moved to the mortuary as police pursue murder investigations and await a post-mortem report.
Two Other Tragic Deaths Reported in Githurai
In a separate incident in Githurai, police discovered the body of 25-year-old Gloria Kwamboka Angwenyi, who had been missing for two days. She was found seated in her bathroom with a bedsheet tied around her neck. A suicide note was recovered, and the house had been locked from inside, prompting neighbours and police to break in.
Another case involved 22-year-old Kenyatta University student Latifa Wangari, whose decomposed body was found hanging inside her house. Neighbours reported a foul smell and alerted police, who broke a window to access the room. A suicide note was also found.
Rising Suicide Cases
Police and health experts warn that suicide cases continue to rise, driven by factors including joblessness, academic pressure, financial strain, mental health challenges, and substance abuse. Authorities say efforts are ongoing to strengthen prevention and mental-health support across the country.
