Head of Public Service Felix Koskei added another academic milestone on Friday, earning a Master of Science in Zoology (Agricultural Entomology) at the University of Nairobi’s 73rd graduation ceremony.
This is Koskei’s third degree from UoN, having previously earned a Bachelor of Science in 1990 and an MBA in 2004. He described his latest degree as a “worthy choice,” highlighting his commitment to lifelong learning.
“Balancing the demands of public service with academic pursuit has required discipline and persistence, complemented by the support of family, friends, and colleagues,” Koskei said, quoting Nelson Mandela: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
Recognition and Encouragement for Graduates
UoN Vice Chancellor Prof. Hutchinson Jesang congratulated the Class of 2025, praising their resilience and determination.
“Your presence here today is a testament to growth and perseverance,” he said.
Chancellor Prof. Patrick Verkooijen urged graduates to combine knowledge with practical enterprise, emphasizing that innovation drives jobs, livelihoods, and societal progress. He cited student-led innovations in food security, transport, and post-harvest loss reduction as examples of how academic work can solve real-world challenges.
Koskei’s Achievement in the Spotlight
In a special mention, the Chancellor lauded Koskei for showing that scholarship and public service are inseparable. Koskei also revealed plans to pursue a PhD, aiming to continue contributing to national development.
The graduation ceremony saw 3,836 degrees and diplomas awarded, including 85 PhDs, 461 master’s, 3,029 bachelor’s, 23 postgraduate diplomas, and 63 diplomas. Among the graduands were 304 students from Koitaleel Samoei University College.
