The Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (FIDA-Kenya) has strongly condemned alleged sexual abuse involving a teacher at Alliance Girls High School, calling for swift and decisive action by both the school and the Ministry of Education.
The allegations, brought to light through Africa Uncensored’s Deep Dive newsletter, implicate a Christian Union patron and teacher at the prestigious institution. FIDA-Kenya has voiced its deep concern over the disturbing revelations and expressed unwavering support for the survivors who have spoken out.
“These reports are not just shocking, they are heartbreaking,” said FIDA-Kenya Chairperson Christine Kungu in a statement on Monday. “We are appalled that a person charged with guiding and mentoring students could instead use that position to allegedly harm them.”
Kungu highlighted that the students’ testimonies reveal not only abuse but a broader pattern of institutional neglect and silence. She stated that the failure to act and protect points to an alarming breakdown in accountability and oversight.
FIDA emphasized that the safety of students is a constitutional right and condemned any abuse perpetrated by individuals in positions of trust. “Schools should be places where children grow, learn, and feel safe, not spaces where abuse is allowed to continue in silence,” Kungu said.
The organization is offering legal and psychosocial support to the affected students and encouraged others with similar experiences to speak up, assuring them they are not alone. Survivors can contact FIDA-Kenya via the toll-free line 0800 720 501 or email info@fidakenya.org.
In a strong call to action, FIDA demanded a transparent investigation by the school’s Board of Management and urged the Ministry of Education to take disciplinary and legal action against anyone complicit in allowing the abuse to persist. It also called on the Ministry to enforce clear gender-based violence policies in all schools, mandate training for teachers, and establish safe reporting systems for students.
“Justice delayed is justice denied. We must protect our children, not tomorrow, but now,” Kungu concluded.
