Huawei Technologies Kenya has commissioned a state-of-the-art ICT laboratory at St. Stephens Namasoli School, further cementing its commitment to advancing digital literacy across the country.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, who praised Huawei’s impactful initiative. “A heartfelt thank you to Huawei Technologies Kenya for donating computers and equipment to schools. This generous support empowers our students with essential ICT skills, giving them equal opportunities to thrive in the digital age,” said Wetang’ula. “It will also reduce disparities in ICT literacy between rural and urban areas, giving all students a level playing field.”
As part of the initiative, Huawei donated 30 modern computers and a 60-inch Max Hub smart teaching screen. These tools will significantly enhance digital learning for both students and teachers, providing access to quality ICT education and fostering innovation among learners.
This latest investment complements Huawei’s ongoing digital literacy programs — notably, the DigiTruck and DigiSchool initiatives. DigiTruck, a mobile digital classroom mounted on a solar-powered truck, delivers free ICT training to underserved communities, particularly in remote areas. DigiSchool, meanwhile, supports schools by equipping them with digital tools and resources.
Since its inception in 2019, the DigiTruck program has trained over 6,240 youth across 39 counties. In 2025 alone, more than 680 young people have completed the program, including 180 recent graduates from Baringo County.
Notably, recent DigiTruck sessions in Migori and Homa Bay counties also yielded impressive outcomes. At Uriri Vocational Training Centre, 210 youth (95 women and 115 men) graduated, while Oriwo Boys High School saw 290 graduates (143 women and 147 men), highlighting the inclusivity and nationwide reach of the initiative.
Huawei’s sustained investments and training efforts are playing a pivotal role in supporting Kenya’s national ICT goals, ensuring that no student is left behind in the digital transformation journey. With continued collaboration between the private sector and government, Kenya is well on track to nurturing a tech-savvy, future-ready generation.
