Former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama has added a new accolade to his long career in public service, graduating with a Master of Public Administration from the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. The milestone marks a significant step in his personal and professional development, underscoring his dedication to continuous learning and effective leadership.
Muthama, who is the founding chairman of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and a commissioner at the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC), announced the achievement via social media. Posting a photo from his graduation ceremony, he captioned it: “My Big Day at the University of Birmingham (Master of Public Administration).”
The announcement was met with widespread congratulatory messages from Kenyans across the political divide, including prominent figures like lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi and Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai. Many praised Muthama’s commitment to academic advancement and his enduring passion for public service.
His graduation comes at a time when Muthama has been vocal on matters of national importance. Just weeks ago, he strongly criticized remarks by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua regarding the 2007/08 post-election violence. Speaking on May 25, Muthama cautioned against reopening painful chapters of Kenya’s history, warning that doing so could destabilize the nation.
“We should forget about what happened in the past and move forward,” Muthama said, addressing Gachagua directly and referencing his role as a District Officer during the period of unrest. “Don’t think people like Muthama don’t know what you did.”
He emphasized that his comments were driven by a desire to preserve Kenya’s democratic gains and national unity. “I have nothing personal against him. I am a true Kenyan who fears nothing. I will stand for the truth,” he declared.
Muthama also condemned the chaotic scenes that accompanied the launch of Gachagua’s new political party, urging leaders to promote peace, inclusivity, and democratic values.
With his latest academic achievement, Muthama continues to redefine his role in public life, demonstrating that leadership is not only about holding office but also about personal growth and principled advocacy.
