Seventeen-year-old TikTok sensation Kaluma Boy has secured a full university scholarship just days after capturing the hearts of Kenyans with his viral video showing him tenderly caring for his sick father.
The heartwarming announcement was made on Sunday, October 5, 2025, during a thanksgiving service led by JCM Church Ruiru Bishop Ben Kamau, popularly known as Muthee Kiengei.
Kiengei revealed that Kaluma Boy, whose real name has not yet been disclosed, will join The East African University to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Sales and Marketing, with a strong focus on digital marketing.
“I want to announce that Kaluma Boy will be joining the university,” Kiengei told the congregation. “He should be the biggest beneficiary of the donations we’ve received. His next step is education, to change his life’s course.”
According to Bishop Kiengei, Dr. Christopher Mutembei, the Vice-Chancellor of The East African University, personally confirmed the scholarship offer, which will cover tuition, accommodation, and learning materials.
The move comes after an outpouring of support from Kenyans on social media, many of whom were deeply moved by Kaluma Boy’s humility, resilience, and compassion toward his father. His story quickly trended on TikTok and X (formerly Twitter), prompting calls for well-wishers to step in and support his education.
Muthee Kiengei, known for his philanthropic efforts and advocacy for youth empowerment, said the scholarship will ensure that Kaluma Boy’s viral fame translates into lasting impact and opportunity.
“We don’t just want him to be a viral story; we want him to be a success story,” Kiengei added.
The scholarship marks a new chapter in Kaluma Boy’s life, offering him a chance to use his creativity and digital skills to inspire others. His journey stands as a powerful reminder that acts of love and responsibility can open unexpected doors of opportunity.
