The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has reaffirmed its commitment to community development by officially handing over two newly constructed classrooms to Moi Barracks Comprehensive School in Eldoret. The initiative is part of a broader effort by the military to enhance education infrastructure and support peaceful development in the region.
During the handover ceremony, Colonel Christopher Boit praised the quality of the construction and recognized the collaboration that made the project a success. “Infrastructure investments are not only instrumental in creating a conducive learning environment but also pivotal in enhancing the overall academic performance of the students,” he stated.
Boit emphasized that the new classrooms will play a critical role in alleviating congestion and improving the learning experience, enabling the students to thrive academically. The handover underscores the KDF’s growing partnership with educational institutions to foster academic excellence through improved infrastructure.
Hellen Limo, the deputy head teacher at Moi Barracks Comprehensive School, expressed deep gratitude to the KDF. She acknowledged the military’s consistent support and highlighted the positive impact the new classrooms would have on the school’s learning environment. “I echo your unwavering commitment to the school’s growth,” she said.
This latest development comes as part of a broader KDF initiative under Operation Maliza Uhalifu, aimed at restoring peace and normalcy in banditry-prone areas. In January, the KDF facilitated the reopening of Cheptulel Boys Secondary School in West Pokot after a three-year closure due to persistent insecurity. The reopening marked a key milestone in efforts to rehabilitate and restore educational services in affected communities.
At the Cheptulel reopening, County Director of Peace, Rev. Jackson Alukusia, assured the local community of lasting peace. He encouraged students to take full advantage of the safe environment and focus on their studies. “You are now in a safe environment, and I encourage you to contribute to the future of this great community,” he said.
The KDF’s educational initiatives reflect a holistic approach to peacebuilding, combining security efforts with tangible community development projects to support long-term stability.
