The Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) Foundation has commissioned a new 100-bed dormitory at Cardinal Otunga Girls High School in Bungoma County, a project fully funded at a cost of Sh5 million. The facility was officially opened on Friday, May 30, 2025, by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, who praised the initiative as a critical step toward improving the quality of education and student welfare in the region.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Wetang’ula lauded the KPC Foundation for its continued investment in education, emphasizing that empowering youth through education is essential to national development. “We thank KPC Foundation for creating a safe, comfortable, and dignified learning environment for students. This is a contribution to their dreams, their ambitions, and their future successes,” he said. He also encouraged other corporate organizations to replicate such initiatives in underserved areas across the country.
Representing KPC Managing Director Joe Sang, Foundation Board Trustee Gloria Khafafa reiterated the organization’s commitment to educational development, particularly in marginalized regions. She noted that KPC’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives are designed to align with government goals of increasing secondary school enrolment and completion rates. “We believe that education is a powerful tool for change,” Khafafa said, adding that supporting the girl child remains a core focus of the Foundation’s mission.
The newly opened dormitory is part of KPC Foundation’s wider CSI strategy, anchored on three pillars: Education, Health, and Water & Sanitation. These pillars guide the Foundation’s impactful community outreach programs aimed at addressing critical social needs.
In recent years, KPC Foundation has invested over Sh11 million in educational infrastructure in Homa Bay and Nandi counties, including projects like a dormitory and science lab at Simbi Secondary School, and an administration block at Kowuor Primary School. The Cardinal Otunga Girls’ dormitory project is the latest in the Foundation’s growing efforts to support educational equity and empower the next generation through better facilities.
