The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has extended the application deadline for the September 2025 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) intake. Initially set to close on August 22, the portal will now remain open for an additional week, giving more candidates time to secure their placement.
In a statement issued on Friday, August 22, KUCCPS also announced a significant reduction in application fees. The cost, previously Ksh1,500, has been slashed to Ksh500 to encourage more applicants to take advantage of the opportunity. The service further advised students to seek assistance from Huduma Centres or designated TVET institutions before submitting their applications.
The placement agency has invited candidates from the 2000 to 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) cohorts to apply for courses at institutions including the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) and other accredited colleges. Minimum grade requirements remain a C- for Diploma courses (Level 6), a D for Craft Certificate programs (Level 5), and an E for Artisan Certificate programs (Level 4).
To apply, students must log into the KUCCPS portal at student.kuccps.net, entering their KCSE index number, the year they sat for their exams, and a password. KUCCPS advises applicants to use their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) index number or birth certificate number as their password.
The KUCCPS platform provides access to a wide array of institutions, including 41 public universities, 29 accredited private universities, and 32 university-affiliated TVETs. Successful applicants will also be eligible for government scholarships and loans from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).
This year’s TVET intake is particularly significant given the results of the 2024 KCSE examinations. Out of 962,512 candidates, only 246,391 scored C+ and above, qualifying for direct university admission. The remaining 605,774 students, who did not meet the university entry cut-off, are expected to pursue TVET courses.
With the extended deadline and reduced fees, KUCCPS is keen on expanding access to technical and vocational education, a key pillar in equipping Kenyan youth with skills that align with the country’s workforce demands.
