The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has officially opened the inter-institutional transfer window for students placed in the 2025/2026 academic year. The transfer window, which began on July 14, 2025, will remain open until August 24, 2025, providing a crucial opportunity for students seeking to revise their academic paths.
In a circular addressed to university vice chancellors, principals of university constituent colleges, and directors of TVET institutions, KUCCPS outlined the transfer procedures and urged institutions to support students during this critical period. The entire process will be conducted online through the KUCCPS portal, allowing students to initiate transfer requests from the comfort of their homes.
Students can apply to change either their programme of study or the institution they have been placed in. According to KUCCPS CEO Agnes Wahome, the transfer procedure involves several key steps. First, the student must initiate the transfer request via the KUCCPS portal. The receiving institution will then review and endorse the request. Subsequently, the releasing institution will process the release through their respective portal.
Once both institutions have completed their part, KUCCPS will review the application and issue an official transfer letter. Students are required to download this letter and present it to the receiving institution to complete the admission process and receive joining instructions.
Dr. Wahome emphasized that students must meet the cut-off points and subject requirements of the desired programme, especially in cases involving inter-faculty or inter-programme transfers within universities. She also reminded institutions to generate transfer reports through their respective portals for record-keeping.
This transfer window comes after the official release of the 2025/2026 placement results on July 1, 2025. The period offers students an opportunity to realign their academic goals based on interest, performance, and future career aspirations.
KUCCPS encourages students to carefully review all requirements before submitting applications and urges institutions to offer timely assistance to applicants to ensure a smooth transition.
