Former First Lady Mama Margaret Kenyatta delivered an inspiring keynote address at Brookhouse School’s 17th graduation ceremony held at the Karen Campus, urging the Class of 2025 to become architects of global change.
Addressing the 170 graduating students, Mama Margaret applauded their achievements and urged them to harness their talents not only for personal success but for the betterment of society. “You have learned to leverage your talents, not just for personal success, but to build a better world by contributing your gifts and brilliant minds to the world,” she said.
In her speech, the former First Lady celebrated the academic accomplishments of the graduates, noting that over 40 per cent had already secured scholarships to top-tier global universities. She praised the students’ potential to lead a new generation that challenges the status quo, fosters innovation, and promotes kindness.
“I see a bold generation rising, one ready to question the status quo, reimagine the future, and confront injustices,” she said. “Your brilliance must drive innovation, experiment with new ideas, and help build the kinder world we so desperately need.”
Margaret Kenyatta also highlighted the importance of values instilled at Brookhouse through its Round Square framework, which promotes internationalism, democracy, environmental stewardship, adventure, leadership, and service. She commended the students for their practical engagement in social issues, citing their environmental work at Oloolua Forest and community service initiatives as clear signs of their readiness to engage with real-world challenges.
“Go forth and shine,” she concluded. “Wherever life takes you, let your light transform the world.”
The colorful ceremony was attended by proud parents, teachers, and distinguished guests. Among them was the United Nations Office in Nairobi Director-General Zainab Bangura, who echoed Mama Margaret’s sentiments, encouraging the graduates to remain committed to positive change.
The event marked a significant milestone for the students, celebrating not only their academic success but also their preparedness to make a meaningful contribution to a rapidly changing world
