Mount Kenya University (MKU) has taken a significant step towards advancing its Digital Transformation agenda with the launch of its University Integrated Resource Planning (UnIRP) system. In partnership with Marwadi Technologies of India, MKU is migrating from its existing systems, including the Students Management Information System (SMIS) and ERP, to a unified platform designed to revolutionize the academic experience.
This new system aligns with MKU’s 2025-2029 Strategic Plan, Kenya’s Vision 2030, and global frameworks such as the United Nations SDGs and the African Union’s Agenda 2063. Prof. Simon Gicharu, MKU’s Board Chairman, emphasized that UnIRP is a major leap forward in digital evolution, positioning the university to remain competitive in a highly digitalized world. He noted that universities embracing data and technology would lead in the knowledge economy.
UnIRP offers a seamless, end-to-end digital experience for students, enabling real-time access to exam results, course registration, and academic support through mobile platforms. Faculty and staff benefit from data automation, predictive analytics, and AI-driven decision-making tools, allowing them to focus on teaching and research rather than administrative tasks.
The system’s governance capabilities provide university management with real-time insights on enrollment trends and financial health, aiding strategic decision-making. This transformation extends to human resources, student services, procurement, and alumni engagement, ensuring MKU remains at the forefront of educational innovation.
Prof. Deogratius Jaganyi, the Vice-Chancellor, highlighted the system’s role in enhancing student experience and fostering agile learning. AI and predictive analytics will help identify students at risk of academic failure, allowing timely interventions. The university is also excited about incorporating AI into its examination system, further boosting integrity and efficiency.
With the UnIRP system already implemented in other global institutions, MKU is poised for a future of accessible, intelligent, and personalized education, breaking down barriers to learning for all students.
