Norway’s Princess Ingrid Alexandra, second in line to the Norwegian throne, is embarking on an exciting new chapter by moving to Australia to pursue her university education. At 21 years old, the princess has enrolled at the University of Sydney, where she will begin full-time studies in August.
The royal household of Norway confirmed that Princess Ingrid Alexandra will study a degree program focused on “international relations and political economy.” This choice reflects her growing interest in global affairs, a field that complements her future role in the Norwegian monarchy. Alongside her academic pursuits, the princess will live in a student residence on campus, providing her the opportunity to fully immerse herself in university life and its social environment.
The University of Sydney expressed enthusiasm about welcoming the princess. Vice-President Kirsten Andrews highlighted the university’s commitment to offering a vibrant campus experience. She encouraged the princess to take advantage of the beautiful grounds, student clubs and societies, and the rich cultural opportunities Sydney offers. This move is also seen as an opportunity for the princess to broaden her horizons and build connections outside of Norway.
Interestingly, this is not the first time the Norwegian royal family has had a close connection to Australia. Princess Ingrid Alexandra’s mother, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, previously spent a year studying at Wangaratta High School in Victoria during her senior school years, creating a personal family link to the country.
Born and raised in Oslo, Princess Ingrid Alexandra recently completed her military service, where she served 15 months as an engineer soldier and rifleman. This experience has added a dimension of discipline and public service to her profile.
The princess is also known for her keen interest in environmental protection and climate change, causes she has championed publicly. With her university studies in international relations, it is expected that she will continue to focus on global issues such as sustainability and diplomacy.
As the granddaughter of King Harald and daughter of Crown Prince Haakon, Princess Ingrid Alexandra’s move to Australia marks a significant step in her preparation for future royal responsibilities, blending education, service, and international exposure.
