Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok has called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of a teacher at Alliance Girls High School following serious allegations of sexual misconduct involving students.
Speaking during a Thanksgiving ceremony at Kapkoros Barngetuny Secondary School in Nandi County, PS Bitok strongly condemned any form of romantic or sexual relationships between teachers and students, reaffirming the government’s zero-tolerance policy on such conduct.
“We are not going to condone any behavior where teachers or any other stakeholders in school take advantage of our children,” Bitok stated. “We want to condemn with the strongest terms possible those behaviors of teachers or any other characters who want to take advantage of our children sexually.”
Bitok emphasized that the crackdown will not be limited to Alliance Girls, warning that any teacher found engaging in similar misconduct in any school across the country will face the full force of the law.
The remarks follow a report published by Africa Uncensored in its Deep Dive newsletter, which alleged that a teacher at the prestigious girls’ school had engaged in inappropriate conduct with students. The report sparked outrage from both the public and rights groups.
The Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (FIDA-Kenya) has also voiced strong condemnation of the incident. In a statement issued on Monday, July 7, FIDA-Kenya Chairperson Christine Kungu expressed deep concern over the revelations, stating that the survivors had shown immense bravery by speaking out.
“These reports are not just shocking, they are heartbreaking,” Kungu said. “We are appalled that a person charged with guiding and mentoring students could instead use that position to allegedly harm them.”
Kungu also decried a pattern of institutional neglect, calling on the Ministry of Education and school management to act swiftly.
FIDA-Kenya demanded urgent investigations, legal action against perpetrators, and comprehensive support for the affected students.
The case has reignited national debate about the safety and protection of students in schools, with growing calls for more robust safeguarding measures in learning institutions.
