Basic Education Principal Secretary (PS) Julius Bitok on Monday witnessed the opening of KCSE exam containers in Westlands, Nairobi, as preparations get underway for the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) theory exams. The exercise is part of nationwide measures to ensure smooth and secure conduct of exams for 996,078 candidates.
During the visit, PS Bitok also addressed the tragic loss of 14 learners in the November 1 landslide in Elgeyo Marakwet, describing the incident as “heartbreaking.” He assured that the Ministry of Education remains committed to supporting the affected families and facilitating the continuation of education for displaced students.
At Westlands, KCSE examination officials were seen picking sealed papers from containers under strict supervision. PS Bitok highlighted that the Ministry has deployed personnel and resources across the country to safeguard the integrity of the exams. KNEC officials have coordinated the deployment of invigilators, supervisors, and center managers, alongside enhanced security measures such as smart digital padlocks on exam containers.
“The Ministry is dedicated to ensuring that every learner has an equal opportunity to perform under secure and well-managed conditions,” PS Bitok stated. He emphasized the importance of contingency planning, security oversight, and candidate welfare, especially in areas affected by natural disasters.
A glimpse inside the Westlands container revealed securely sealed KCSE papers ready for distribution to examination centers across Nairobi. The Ministry reaffirmed that despite challenges posed by disasters, Kenya’s national examinations will proceed in an organised manner.
PS Bitok’s inspection underscores the government’s commitment to both the safety of learners and the credibility of Kenya’s national examinations. This year’s KCSE exams will therefore proceed under tight security and meticulous planning, ensuring fairness and smooth execution across all centers.
