A school bus accident in Mihang’o, Nairobi, has left a pupil feared dead and several others injured. The crash happened on the evening of Friday, September 12, 2025.
According to witnesses, the bus veered off the road before crashing into a wall. Sadly, a young girl who was walking by the roadside was struck by the bus. She is feared dead.
Students on Board Injured
At the time of the crash, about 13 students were inside the bus. Many sustained injuries. Some were rushed to hospital for treatment, while others received first aid at the scene.
Videos from the site showed the front part of the bus badly damaged. Police officers from Kayole Police Station arrived to secure the scene. The bus was later towed to the station for further investigations.
The cause of the accident is still unknown. The school management declined to comment on the incident.
Another Recent School Bus Accident
This tragedy comes just weeks after another school bus accident on August 8. In that case, a bus carrying students and teachers from Salvation Army Imusutsu High School overturned along the Kisumu-Busia highway in Vihiga County.
The group was travelling to Meru for the Kenya National Music Festival. Several students were injured in that accident as well.
Safety Concerns Raised
The Mihang’o crash has once again raised questions about the safety of school transport in Kenya. Parents and education stakeholders are calling for:
- Regular inspection of school buses
- Stricter traffic law enforcement
- Proper driver training
- Clear safety guidelines for schools
As investigations continue, families in Mihang’o are mourning the young girl and praying for the quick recovery of the injured students.
