In a powerful show of commitment to education, the Rotary Club of Ngong Hills (RCNH) has donated 3,500 textbooks to three schools across Kenya in a bid to improve literacy and enhance access to learning materials for students in underserved communities.
The donation, carried out in partnership with the Rotary Club of Karen and Oxford University Press, was distributed among Kerarapon Secondary School in Karen (1,250 books), Oloolua Secondary School in Kajiado North (1,250 books), and Mrabani Primary School in Taita Taveta (1,000 books).
Speaking during the handover ceremony at Kerarapon Secondary School, Rotary District 9212 Governor Wairimu Njage praised the initiative as a tangible example of community service. “This is Rotary in action. When we empower young minds through education, we transform communities,” she stated.
RCNH President Reginald Mahonga emphasized that the donation was more than just a supply of books. “This donation is not just about textbooks, it’s about opening minds and unlocking futures. We thank our partners and look forward to expanding our impact,” he said.
School heads welcomed the donation, noting it would significantly reduce resource gaps. “These textbooks will significantly improve our teaching resources and student engagement,” said Joseph Kamakia, principal of Kerarapon Secondary School.
The initiative aligns with Rotary International’s global focus on basic education and literacy. Oxford University Press ensured the provision of high-quality educational materials, helping to promote a culture of reading and academic excellence.
This donation comes just two months after another key RCNH project. On May 10, 2025, the club awarded 15 full scholarships to bright but needy students from Kajiado North subcounty at a ceremony held at Embul-bul Secondary School.
RCNH continues to collaborate with schools in the region particularly Oloolua, Embul-bul, and Kerarapon secondary schools to uplift students from disadvantaged backgrounds and support them in completing their education.
With this latest initiative, the Rotary Club of Ngong Hills reaffirms its dedication to transforming communities through education and empowering the next generation of leaders.
