Over 5,000 secondary school students in Ruaraka Constituency have benefited from bursaries amounting to Ksh34 million, disbursed under the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF). The initiative, spearheaded by Ruaraka Member of Parliament TJ Kajwang’, is aimed at easing the financial burden of education on vulnerable families and ensuring learners remain in school.
Speaking during the disbursement event at Drive-In Primary School, Kajwang’ reaffirmed his commitment to supporting education access and equity. He highlighted that the bursaries were awarded to students in both day and boarding schools, including learners living with disabilities.
“The objective is to keep our children in school, regardless of their background. Education is the most powerful equalizer, and we must ensure that no child is denied learning due to lack of fees,” Kajwang’ stated.
In a show of long-term commitment, the MP further pledged that all students from Ruaraka who qualify for professional courses after secondary school will have their college education fully sponsored through the NG-CDF.
He also challenged school principals in the constituency to focus on improving the quality of education, noting that future NG-CDF allocations would prioritize schools that demonstrate academic progress and inclusivity.
Residents present at the event praised the bursary disbursement but also called on the MP to fast-track the construction of a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution in the constituency. They emphasized the need to create more opportunities for post-secondary education, particularly for students who may not join university immediately.
Meanwhile, on the political front, Kajwang’ responded to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s recent comments on national television regarding the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party’s stance on the proposed broad-based government. Kajwang’ dismissed the remarks as personal opinions that do not reflect the party’s official position.
“Our party has structures and official communication channels. What Sifuna said was his view, not the party’s stance,” Kajwang’ remarked, urging for unity within ODM ranks amid ongoing political realignments.
The bursary program marks a significant boost to education support in Ruaraka, signaling the MP’s dedication to inclusive development through education.
