President William Ruto on Friday presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of new student hostels at Bumbe National Polytechnic in Funyula Constituency, Busia County.
The project marks a key step in the government’s agenda to expand infrastructure in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions across the country. The new hostels are expected to ease the accommodation burden for students and create a more conducive learning environment.
President Ruto was accompanied by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, and Cabinet Secretary for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development, Wycliffe Oparanya.
Upon arrival, the Head of State received a warm welcome from Busia residents before laying the foundation stone for the hostels. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening technical training as a pathway to empowering youth with employable and entrepreneurial skills.
“Our goal is to ensure every young person in Kenya has access to quality training and the facilities they need to thrive in the modern economy,” President Ruto said.
He emphasized that the government continues to invest heavily in TVET institutions to bridge the skills gap and support the country’s industrial and digital transformation agenda.
In his address, the President also encouraged Busia youth to register for the Nyota Program, a government initiative that provides mentorship, business financing, and job placement opportunities for young people.
President Ruto reiterated that through education and innovation, Kenya can unlock the potential of its youth and build a stronger, self-reliant economy.
The groundbreaking at Bumbe National Polytechnic adds to the growing list of national investments in technical institutions aimed at expanding access, creating jobs, and fostering inclusive development across counties.
