Strathmore University’s Vice-Chancellor’s Run has witnessed extraordinary growth over the past five years, evolving from a small community event into one of the institution’s most impactful annual traditions. This year, the run attracted 2,000 participants a tenfold increase from the modest 200 runners who took part in its inaugural edition.
The VC Run, held annually, is more than just a fitness event. At its heart lies a noble cause: supporting financially disadvantaged students to access quality education at the prestigious university. The funds raised go directly into the university’s scholarship fund, ensuring that deserving learners are not left behind due to financial constraints.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Betty Ngala, Strathmore’s Director of Corporate Communications, emphasized the institution’s long-standing commitment to inclusivity and community service.
“Strathmore has from its very beginning always supported the disadvantaged in society, because one of the key missions of the University is to serve society,” Ngala said.
This commitment is deeply embedded in the university’s values and is reflected in initiatives such as the VC Run, which rallies students, staff, alumni, and the broader public around a shared goal of transforming lives through education.
With this year’s remarkable turnout, the university is setting even more ambitious targets for the future. Organizers have already set their sights on attracting at least 6,000 participants in the next edition of the run. Plans are underway to expand outreach, enhance the event experience, and partner with more organizations to boost participation and fundraising efforts.
The VC Run has also become a platform for community engagement, wellness promotion, and corporate social responsibility. It draws participants of all ages and backgrounds, creating a vibrant atmosphere of unity and purpose.
As Strathmore University continues to blend academic excellence with impactful social initiatives, the success of the Vice-Chancellor’s Run serves as a testament to what can be achieved when education and empathy work hand in hand. With the continued support of the public and private sectors, the university remains steadfast in its mission to empower the next generation of leaders one step at a time.
