Two teachers are among three people injured following a suspected bomb attack at a hotel in Mandera Town on Saturday evening, October 5. The incident occurred at around 6 p.m. in the Kona B area, according to local community leaders.
The victims, all currently admitted to the Mandera County Teaching and Referral Hospital, are said to be in critical condition. Local leaders confirmed that the attack left one person severely injured but fortunately, no lives were lost.
“At around 6 p.m., we received reports that a hotel had been attacked at Kona B, and some of our people were injured. We thank God no one died, but one person is critically injured,” a community leader said.
Reports shared on social media indicate that the injured teachers are non-locals. One teacher is from Duse Primary School, while the other teaches at Neboi Primary School in Neboi Ward, both located in Mandera East Sub-county.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has not yet confirmed the incident or issued an official statement regarding the teachers’ condition.
Residents expressed frustration over the growing insecurity in Mandera, urging the national government to take swift action to protect educators and civilians in the area.
“As a community, we are saddened because these attacks keep happening. We call on security agencies to step up efforts to restore peace,” one resident said.
Mandera County, which borders Somalia, has faced recurring attacks often linked to terror groups operating in the region.
Just three months ago, seven police officers were injured when their vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED) along the Gadudia–Laga Road in the same sub-county. The persistence of such attacks continues to heighten security concerns across the region.
