A somber mood has engulfed Moi University’s main campus in Uasin Gishu County following the tragic death of a first-year student, Elvis Mureithi Morara, 20, who was fatally stabbed during an altercation near his residential apartment in Talai Centre, Kesses.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on Saturday, July 19, when an argument broke out among a group of students walking back to their hostels. It is alleged that Morara used language deemed offensive toward one of the students, prompting the suspect to draw a knife and stab him in the chest.
The suspect, believed to be a fellow student, fled the scene immediately after the attack. Police have since launched a manhunt for the suspect, while the murder weapon was recovered from the crime scene. Two other individuals who were present during the incident have been arrested as investigations continue.
Morara was a promising student pursuing a Bachelor of Information Science. His untimely death has shocked the university community, sparking renewed calls for better student counseling and conflict resolution mechanisms within institutions of higher learning.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the country, several other tragic deaths have been reported. In Bondo, Siaya County, a man was found dead by the roadside in what police suspect to be a case of murder.
