The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has formally advertised the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO), signaling the imminent conclusion of Dr. Nancy Macharia’s tenure after nearly a decade at the helm. Dr. Macharia, who took over in 2015, made history as the first woman to lead the Commission since its establishment.
The advertised position, also serving as Secretary to the Commission, comes at a critical time for TSC as it undergoes key policy reforms and faces increasing scrutiny over teacher management and education standards in Kenya. The next CEO will be tasked with steering the Commission’s strategic direction and overseeing day-to-day operations.
According to the advertisement published in MyGov, the successful candidate will be responsible for implementing Commission policies, decisions, and strategies. The CEO will also act as the Accounting Officer and custodian of all Commission records, in addition to supervising staff and ensuring compliance with public service ethics.
The role is tenured for five years, renewable once, in accordance with Section 16 of the TSC Act. To be eligible, applicants must be Kenyan citizens holding a degree in education from a recognized university. They must also have at least 10 years of experience in education, administration and management, public administration, human resources, or financial management. Additionally, candidates must meet the integrity standards outlined in Chapter Six of the Constitution.
Applications must be submitted by Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. through the TSC online portal at https://www.recruitment.tsc.go.ke, via email to chairperson2025@tsc.go.ke, or hand-delivered to the Commission’s headquarters in Upper Hill, Nairobi.
Applicants are required to submit a completed application form, a detailed CV, academic and professional certificates, and valid clearance documents from KRA, HELB, EACC, DCI, and a recognized Credit Reference Bureau.
TSC emphasized transparency in the recruitment process, noting that the names of all applicants and the interview schedule for shortlisted candidates will be published in the print media and on the Commission’s website. Any form of canvassing or falsification of information will result in automatic disqualification.
