The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has cautioned the public to be alert after fake teacher appointment letters started circulating online.
One letter, bearing the TSC logo and official format, falsely claimed to confirm the appointment of a secondary school teacher in Elgeyo Marakwet County. It outlined salary, allowances, and probation terms, misleading jobseekers eager for employment.
In a statement, TSC urged Kenyans to confirm any communication through its website and county offices. “Beware of a fake letter purporting to be from the TSC. Stay alert and confirm information from official channels,” the commission said.
The warning comes as the government prepares to recruit 24,000 new teachers by January to address staffing shortages. The drive is expected to raise the number of teachers hired under President William Ruto’s administration to 100,000 since September 2022.
Officials say the new staff will help reduce the student-teacher ratio and strengthen the rollout of Competency-Based Education (CBE), which has stretched resources, especially at junior secondary schools.
TSC reminded the public that all genuine employment and transfer communications are issued only through its secure platforms. It also warned teachers not to pay bribes or fall for shortcuts in the recruitment process.
