The University of Nairobi (UoN) on Friday held its 73rd graduation ceremony, with a strong call to strengthen innovation, entrepreneurship, and digital skills among learners. The institution reaffirmed its commitment to shaping graduates who are not only academically excellent but also globally competitive and socially responsible.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Jesang Hutchinson emphasized that UoN has deliberately reimagined education to align with Kenya’s and Africa’s transformation agenda. He noted that the university is preparing learners with the skills needed to innovate, create solutions, and thrive in a rapidly changing world.
“At the University of Nairobi, we have deliberately reimagined education to equip learners with entrepreneurship, digital, and critical thinking skills, attributes that prepare one to be a global citizen and an innovator who acts locally but thinks globally,” he said.
Despite global geopolitical and economic challenges, Prof. Hutchinson reported that UoN has successfully met most of its targets in teaching, research, and community service. He added that the institution remains committed to nurturing graduates who can tackle both present and future challenges.
The event saw hundreds of students graduate, joining UoN’s legacy of producing leaders, innovators, and professionals across diverse fields.
Recently, the university was recognized by the Kenya National Innovation Agency (KENIA) as one of 11 universities supporting student-led innovation hubs. In addition, UoN has produced over 1,000 research papers published in high-impact journals over the past year, further cementing its role as a leading research institution in the region.
As Prof. Hutchinson reaffirmed, UoN’s audacity to innovate, adapt, and remain globally relevant underscores its mission: to contribute to the transformation of society while equipping learners with skills that matter in today’s knowledge-driven economy.
