Marsabit County has taken a bold step toward reshaping its image, long overshadowed by banditry and cattle rustling, by spotlighting the talents and potential of its youth. The latest effort came during a cultural and talent-driven event where 19-year-old Agnes Dabo was crowned Miss Tourism Marsabit County 2025.
The initiative, spearheaded by local professionals led by National Land Commission CEO Kabale Tache Arero, seeks to provide alternative pathways for young people, enabling them to showcase their abilities and contribute positively to the county’s growth. By promoting beauty, culture, and talent, the program aims to counter negative stereotypes and position Marsabit as a hub of cultural diversity and tourism opportunities.
Dabo, who now carries the mantle of cultural ambassador for Marsabit, expressed her gratitude and pledged to use her platform to champion peace, unity, and tourism development. “This crown is not just for me but for every young girl in Marsabit who dares to dream beyond the challenges we face. I want to show the world that Marsabit is rich in culture, talent, and resilience,” she said.
According to Arero, investing in the youth is the key to transforming the county’s narrative. “For too long, Marsabit has been defined by conflict. Through programs like this, we want to change perceptions and empower young people to be ambassadors of peace and development,” he noted.
The event also celebrated Marsabit’s diverse cultural heritage, with performances, fashion showcases, and traditional dances highlighting the county’s vibrant communities. Organizers hope the platform will attract more visitors, boost local tourism, and open economic opportunities for residents.
Dabo’s victory signals a fresh chapter for Marsabit one where beauty, talent, and unity take center stage in redefining the county’s future.
