Renowned Kenyan media personality Alex Mwakideu is currently in Uganda, taking part in a special tourism initiative designed to strengthen cross-border ties and promote regional tourism. The celebrated radio presenter has been documenting his trip online, sharing captivating photos and videos that highlight Uganda’s scenic landscapes and cultural diversity.
Explore Uganda Tour: Promoting Regional Collaboration
Mwakideu is part of a Kenyan delegation of tourism stakeholders participating in the eight-day Explore Uganda Tour, an initiative showcasing Uganda’s wide range of attractions — from its world-famous mountain gorillas and chimpanzees to adrenaline-pumping adventures along the River Nile. The program also seeks to enhance tourism collaboration between Kenya and Uganda.
The tour is organized under the guidance of the Ugandan Consulate in Mombasa, with Ambassador Paul Mukumbya underscoring the importance of complementarity between the two nations’ tourist destinations. “Our itinerary highlights Uganda’s mountain gorillas, chimpanzees, adventure tourism along the River Nile, and its rich culture, complementing what the Kenya Coast offers with its beaches, historical sites, and marine parks,” said Mukumbya.
Boosting Economic Growth Through Tourism
The Explore Uganda Tour aims to generate new interest in cross-border travel and tourism investment. According to Mukumbya, increasing visitor exchanges between the two countries will benefit both economies by supporting local businesses, hotels, and restaurants while creating jobs, especially for young people. He added that the tourism boom could spur the construction of new infrastructure, including hotels and lodges, ultimately strengthening economic ties and trade.
Alex Mwakideu’s Experience in Uganda
For Mwakideu, the experience has been both professionally enriching and personally fulfilling. Through his social media platforms, he has shared breathtaking images of Uganda’s wildlife, lush scenery, and cultural landmarks, encouraging Kenyans to consider the Pearl of Africa as a top travel destination. His posts have resonated with fans, who admire his enthusiasm for promoting regional tourism and cultural exchange.
Personal Life and Values
Outside his professional achievements, Mwakideu has previously opened up about his family life, revealing that he and his wife, Mariam Mwemba, jointly manage their finances through a shared bank account. He credits this transparency and teamwork for helping them maintain a strong, trusting marriage — values that mirror his collaborative spirit in his work and advocacy.
Fostering East African Unity Through Tourism
By participating in the Explore Uganda initiative, Alex Mwakideu and other tourism ambassadors are playing a crucial role in bridging the gap between neighboring nations. Their efforts are not only encouraging more Kenyans to explore Uganda and vice versa but also helping to strengthen East African unity through shared experiences and economic collaboration.
The success of the campaign could mark a new chapter in regional tourism, fostering sustainable growth, creating jobs, and deepening the cultural and economic partnership between Kenya and Uganda.
