Popular comedian Senjee recently opened up about a deeply painful chapter in her life involving betrayal during one of her most vulnerable moments. While mourning the loss of her sister and attending her burial, Senjee discovered that her partner had been unfaithful to her—an emotional blow that added another layer of grief to an already heartbreaking situation.
She described how, upon returning from her sister’s funeral, she found a suspicious gold wrapper near their bed. This wasn’t just any wrapper—it signaled a kind of betrayal she hadn’t expected. The couple had previously agreed not to use protection, as they were trying to conceive, so discovering such an item immediately raised alarm bells.
Her suspicions only grew when she remembered a stash of 42 condoms they had kept since transitioning into what she referred to as a ‘marriage.’ Curious and heartbroken, she counted the remaining condoms and realized that only 36 were left. This meant six had been used, confirming her fear that her partner had cheated multiple times in her absence.
Senjee admitted that she was completely devastated. She cried out, overwhelmed by the betrayal, especially because she had just laid her sister to rest. What hurt most was the image she played in her head—of herself dealing with grief while her partner was out partying and betraying her trust. She reflected on the early red flags, such as his constant partying and clubbing, which she had ignored, hoping love would be enough to hold them together.
Despite everything, she initially chose forgiveness. After confronting him with the evidence, she returned to her parents’ home to recover. Eventually, she gave the relationship another chance, believing he might change. However, the cycle of betrayal didn’t stop there. Later, she found flirty messages from another woman on his phone—someone from his past who clearly wanted to come back into his life.
She chose to forgive him again, holding onto hope, only to be blindsided once more. In an unexpected turn, he treated her with affection one morning, even serving her breakfast in bed, then suddenly told her he wanted to break things off. He claimed he didn’t deserve her and that he felt like he was wasting her time. He confessed that he simply wanted to go back to partying and wasn’t ready for a serious relationship.
To his credit, he did help her transition out of their shared space by finding her a new home and paying her rent for three months. Still, the emotional damage had already been done. Senjee was crushed—not just by the end of the relationship, but by the shame of returning to her family with another failed ‘marriage.’
The string of traumatic experiences plunged her into a deep depression. At her lowest point, she even attempted to take her own life. Fortunately, a Good Samaritan intervened, helping her through recovery and giving her a second chance at healing.
In a deeply symbolic act of love during the relationship, Senjee had cut off her long dreadlocks to give to her lover, knowing he admired them but couldn’t grow his own due to the texture of his hair. The gesture, which once seemed romantic, now serves as a bittersweet reminder of the love she gave—and the pain she endured.
