Kenyan musician Arrow Bwoy has offered fans an intimate look at his approach to fatherhood, emphasizing the importance of active involvement in his children’s lives. Speaking on the Tubonge podcast with Chris the Bass, the artist shared insights into how he nurtures strong bonds with his sons, Kai and Kiyan, while supporting his partner, Nadia Mukami.
Commitment From the Start
Arrow Bwoy’s journey into fatherhood began with his firstborn, Kai. Even before the birth, he made it a priority to attend every clinic appointment alongside Nadia, barring unavoidable international travel. He regards this early involvement as one of the most meaningful contributions a father can make.
“There is that routine of 2 AM, wake up to breastfeed,” Arrow Bwoy noted, explaining how he would handle diaper changes before feeding to ensure his son’s comfort and health.
Bonding Through Hands-On Care
For the musician, fatherhood is an active process. He believes that men can form strong bonds with their children through hands-on activities, especially bathing. “I love bonding with my sons a lot through bathing them. I think for men, real bonding comes while bathing them, unlike mothers who often bond with them during breastfeeding,” he explained.
His involvement extends to dressing, diaper changes, supervision, and other daily childcare routines. He jokingly describes himself as an “expert” in baby care, confident in managing most tasks independently.
Supporting His Partner
Arrow Bwoy highlighted the significance of supporting Nadia during the early stages of motherhood, especially given the exhaustion associated with frequent breastfeeding and sleepless nights. “The mother’s support is also very important, but they also get tired. That sitting down to breastfeed, waking up after every 2 hours when the baby is in the early stages, is a very tedious thing,” he shared.
Parenting Moments Filled With Humor
The artist recounted a lighthearted moment with his younger son, Kiyan, when he accidentally dressed the baby in two vests instead of a t-shirt. His elder son, Kai, noticed immediately, adding humor to the everyday challenges of parenting.
Active Participation is Key
Through his candid reflections, Arrow Bwoy underscores that fatherhood requires dedication, patience, and consistent engagement. His hands-on approach demonstrates that nurturing loving, strong bonds with children goes beyond presence—it demands active care, attention, and involvement in everyday moments.
