Preparations for the final farewell of late gospel singer Betty Bayo are ongoing following her untimely death on Monday, November 10. The celebrated artist passed away after battling leukaemia, which severely weakened her in the days leading up to her demise.
Declining Health Before Passing
Close friend and fellow gospel musician Shiru wa GP recounted Betty’s rapid health deterioration. On the night she fell seriously ill, Betty began bleeding while in bed and had to walk to her car, honking for help from neighbors. She was rushed to AAR Hospital, but her condition worsened.
Shiru revealed that the hospital initially declined to admit Betty due to lack of cash for a deposit. “They could not take her in initially because she did not have cash, so they called me, and I paid KSh 260,000. Her friends had raised about KSh 1.3 million, just thirty of them,” she explained. Despite these efforts, Betty suffered a stroke affecting one side of her body and was later diagnosed with a blood clot in her brain. She was transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital, where she passed away two days later.
Funeral Budget and Arrangements
During the first official mourning session on Tuesday, November 11, gospel singer Ben Githae revealed that the family and burial committee had set a funeral budget of KSh 5 million. He encouraged mourners to contribute generously to ensure a dignified farewell.
“I am asking that as you leave, kindly make our treasurer very busy. You know that the budget is KSh 5 million, and we are the ones who will settle it. This is what is required,”
Githae stated.
The burial committee is finalizing the arrangements, with the date and venue expected to be announced soon. Fans expressed optimism online, noting that with the support of the gospel and entertainment community, the target is achievable. Many also lamented the early loss of Betty, whose talent and vibrant spirit touched countless lives.
Carrying Forward Betty’s Legacy
Before her passing, Betty had shared dreams for her daughter, Sky. Close friend Sarah Mtalii revealed that Betty had planned to enrol Sky in prestigious summer programs at Cambridge and Harvard universities. Sarah has vowed to help fulfill these dreams, ensuring that Betty’s legacy lives on through her child.
