Entertainer and political commentator Cassypool has captured national attention with a heartfelt pledge of KSh 500 to each Harambee Stars player following their historic 1–0 win over DR Congo in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) on Sunday, August 3, 2025.
The unexpected victory marked Kenya’s first-ever CHAN triumph on home soil, reigniting optimism around local football. Moved by the team’s spirited performance, Cassypool took to Instagram to express his pride and appreciation.
“Congratulations vijana wetu, you guys have made us proud,” he wrote. “This is the first time we have won here in our country. So mimi nataka kuwapea KSh 500 each, hii ni kama appreciation for making our country proud.”
While the monetary amount may seem modest, Cassypool emphasized that his gesture was not about grandeur but about intention. He challenged Kenyans to look beyond the figure and focus on the patriotic spirit behind it.
“Wewe uko nyumbani unaweza ona hii ni pesa kidogo, lakini wewe kama Mkenya umefanya nini kuwasupport ndugu zetu?” he asked, urging fans to show support in any way they can.
To ensure the pledged tokens reach the players, Cassypool said he plans to coordinate with Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy and Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohamed.
His gesture, though symbolic, has been widely praised by fans who see it as a rare example of homegrown appreciation for sporting excellence. In a country where athletes often go unrecognized, Cassypool’s move has sparked an important conversation about national pride and how Kenyans support their own.
With President William Ruto’s earlier promise of KSh 600 million in funding for Harambee Stars still fresh in the public’s mind, Cassypool’s act adds a personal, relatable layer to the national celebration. For many, it serves as a reminder that every bit of recognition no matter the amount can inspire and uplift.
Cassypool’s pledge may be small in monetary terms, but in spirit, it represents a big win for Kenyan football.
