Oga Obinna recently stirred up controversy after claiming that his interview with Bungoma Goliath played a crucial role in the influencer’s rise to success. Speaking during an interview on TV47, Obinna confidently stated that hosting Goliath on his show was the turning point that propelled him to greater heights. According to Obinna, the conversation they had during the interview inspired Goliath to work harder, reinvent himself, and ultimately achieve the level of success he enjoys today. Obinna compared this experience to his own journey, mentioning how being fired from various jobs and facing rejection had motivated him to improve and find success.
Obinna’s remarks, however, sparked backlash, particularly from Goliath, who disagreed with the comedian’s version of events. Goliath, whose real name is Isaac Otesa, expressed disappointment when he heard about Obinna’s claims. In an interview with TUKO.co.ke, Goliath refuted the idea that Obinna played any significant role in his success. He recalled how Obinna had, in fact, mocked him during their first interaction, telling him to return to the village and figure himself out before coming back to Nairobi. Goliath also pointed out that during a subsequent visit, Obinna criticized him for allegedly interfering with someone else’s work, which left him feeling unsupported rather than encouraged.
Goliath made it clear that if Obinna truly wanted to help him, he could have offered more practical assistance, such as collaborating on projects or even providing him with a place to stay. Instead, Obinna’s advice to return to the village struck Goliath as dismissive, not as constructive guidance. Goliath’s disappointment grew when he learned that Obinna was now taking credit for his progress, calling it “hurtful” and “untrue.”
Adding to the debate, Patrick Riang’a, an associate of Goliath and his employer at Car Soko, shared his thoughts on the matter. Riang’a dismissed Obinna’s narrative, stating that Goliath’s success was more a result of his resilience and determination to push through hardships. According to Riang’a, Goliath never gave up, even when faced with numerous challenges, and it was this unwavering drive that led to his success. He also credited their boss, Felix Limo, for being generous and supportive, helping Goliath grow professionally. Riang’a emphasized that Goliath’s journey was a testament to his own hard work and the support he received from those who genuinely believed in him.
The contrast between Obinna’s claims and Goliath’s version of events raises questions about the role that external influence, personal drive, and support networks play in the success of influencers and public figures. While Obinna may have seen his interaction with Goliath as a pivotal moment in his journey, Goliath’s own perspective paints a different picture—one of self-reliance and the importance of finding genuine support rather than relying on hollow words or mockery.
