Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal team is pressing for his release on a $50 million bond following his acquittal on the most serious charges in his recent high-profile sex crimes trial. In a court filing submitted Tuesday, defense attorney Marc Agnifilo urged Judge Arun Subramanian to reconsider earlier decisions and allow the 55-year-old hip-hop mogul to await sentencing outside the confines of Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC).
Combs was found not guilty on July 2 of three major charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy, offenses that carried the potential of life imprisonment. However, the jury convicted him on two lesser counts related to transporting individuals for prostitution, each carrying a maximum sentence of 10 years. Prosecutors have since acknowledged that federal sentencing guidelines suggest Combs is unlikely to receive the maximum penalty.
Agnifilo’s filing emphasized the harsh conditions at MDC, where Combs has been held since his arrest in September 2024. The defense described the facility as unsafe, citing frequent altercations and security issues within the unit where Combs is housed. They argued that his extended incarceration at the facility represents an “exceptional circumstance” justifying bond release before sentencing.

The defense also pointed out that individuals convicted of similar charges have historically been released pending sentencing, suggesting that continued detention would be a deviation from legal norms. “Mr. Combs has been subjected to conditions that place his safety at risk and hinder his ability to adequately prepare for sentencing,” Agnifilo wrote.
Despite these arguments, Judge Subramanian previously denied an immediate release request, referencing disturbing evidence of violent behavior introduced during trial proceedings. Whether this new bond request set at an unusually high $50 million will sway the court remains uncertain.
Combs’ legal battle has drawn intense media attention, with public opinion sharply divided. While his acquittal on the most serious charges marked a legal victory, the remaining convictions continue to cast a shadow over his legacy. A sentencing date has yet to be scheduled, and the court’s decision on the bond request is expected in the coming weeks.
