Kenyan comedian Eric Omondi has once again stepped in to transform a life, this time coming to the aid of Consolata Aoko Oduya, a grandmother from Homa Bay whose touching story moved many across the country. Aoko had been struggling to pay the school fees for her two grandchildren, who had accumulated a balance of KSh 245,000. In a bid to contribute something towards the amount, she showed up at the school with six chickens, hoping they would be accepted in part payment.
The scene of Aoko sitting outside the school administration block with her grandchildren and the chickens caught the attention of social media users, quickly going viral and drawing widespread sympathy. The story highlighted not just the depth of a grandmother’s love, but also the stark reality many Kenyan families face when it comes to affording education.
Eric Omondi, moved by the story, mobilized his followers and fans under his initiative “Sisi Kwa Sisi” to raise funds for the family. In a video shared with the public, Eric is seen embracing Aoko and her grandchildren before accompanying them to a local bank branch in Kendu Bay. It was there that he revealed they had successfully raised over KSh 800,000.
Of the total amount, KSh 600,000 was deposited into a new account created for Aoko. These funds have been earmarked specifically to cater for the grandchildren’s college education once they finish high school. This gesture not only resolved the immediate issue of unpaid school fees but also secured the children’s future education—a long-term solution that lifted a major burden off Aoko’s shoulders.
The remaining funds were allocated to help Aoko start a small fish business. This venture is aimed at providing her with a sustainable source of income so that she can continue supporting her family without facing similar hardships. The video of the money being handed over, as well as the emotional reactions from Aoko and Eric, touched many supporters who had contributed to the cause.
Aoko, visibly emotional and filled with gratitude, expressed her thanks, acknowledging that what had happened was a miracle and a sign of divine intervention. She thanked Eric and all the well-wishers for their kindness, emphasizing how life-changing the support had been.
Eric’s initiative has received widespread praise, with many people lauding his ability to rally support for those in need. Comments flooded social media, praising him for his kindness and commitment to uplifting others. Supporters called him a hero and role model, celebrating his efforts not just as a comedian but as a humanitarian who consistently uses his platform for good.
This act of kindness follows a similar effort by Eric in Nyamira, where he helped an orphaned boy who had dropped out of school. In that case, he also rallied Kenyans to support the child’s education and built him a new home. These consistent acts of compassion have positioned Eric Omondi as a beacon of hope for many underprivileged families across Kenya.
