A candlelight vigil was held on Monday, April 28, 2025, at the Kenya National Theatre to honour the life and legacy of the late Alicia Nimo, an actress best known for her role in the popular TV series Tahidi High. Nimo tragically passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2025, after collapsing at home. The ceremony brought together family, friends, fans, and colleagues to celebrate her life and the impact she made on those around her.
Born on November 29, 1999, Alicia Nimo was a rising star in Kenya’s entertainment industry, with a bright future ahead. Her death, at the young age of 26, left a profound void in the hearts of those who knew her and admired her talent. During the vigil, attendees shared memories and stories of Alicia, reflecting on her exceptional character and passion for acting.
Tony Sherman, an actor who played a significant role in introducing Nimo to the entertainment world, described her as a talented and eager learner. He recalled their early days together and highlighted her remarkable ability to grasp new skills quickly. “Nimo was a quick learner, and she was always willing to learn from others,” Sherman shared. “She had an infectious smile and a kind heart. Her passion for the craft was unmatched. It was clear that she had a bright future, but unfortunately, it was cut short.”
Alicia’s career began with Tahidi High, where she earned recognition for her authentic performances and her deep understanding of her roles. She quickly became a fan favourite, known for bringing depth and sincerity to her characters. In addition to her acting career, Alicia was involved in several community outreach programs, where she mentored aspiring actors and participated in charitable initiatives. Her generosity and commitment to helping others endeared her to many, both within the entertainment industry and beyond.
The vigil itself was an emotional tribute to Alicia’s legacy. The evening included performances, readings, and personal anecdotes from her colleagues, all of which celebrated her vibrant spirit and the mark she left on the world. As the night progressed, attendees lit candles in her memory, creating a sea of light that symbolised the lasting impact of her life and work.
In a twist of events, a scammer infiltrated the WhatsApp group created for mourners to raise funds for Alicia’s funeral expenses. The fraudster gained admin privileges, demoted other administrators, and redirected donations to a fraudulent number. By the time the situation was discovered, over KSh 6,000 had been sent to the wrong account. This unfortunate incident added to the grief of the community, highlighting the vulnerability of online platforms even during sensitive times.
Alicia Nimo’s funeral is set to take place on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, in her hometown of Kandara, near Thika. Her passing is a tragic loss, but her legacy continues to inspire those who were touched by her talent, kindness, and dedication to her craft. Nimo’s story serves as a reminder of the profound influence one individual can have, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
