Mumbi Maina, the former manager of celebrated Kenyan R&B artist Otile Brown, has spoken out following her abrupt departure last week and she’s not mincing words. Taking to her Instagram stories, Maina delivered a pointed response to online critics, making it clear that her exit was on her own terms and not a sign of weakness.
“I am not scared of anybody, the only person I’m scared of is GOD,” Maina wrote. “I am quiet out of choice and not out of meekness.”
Her exit came after just seven months of managing Otile Brown, during which she helped steer his brand in a competitive and evolving music industry. While the pair appeared professionally solid in public, Maina’s departure sparked a wave of online speculation, with critics questioning her decision and launching personal attacks.
Maina, however, was unapologetic. She labeled the criticism as “misogynistic” and driven by a societal desire to “humble women,” asserting her identity as “a high value woman” with unshakable principles.
“I have values that I don’t compromise on and nobody can tell me otherwise,” she said, standing firm against the backlash.
In her initial resignation statement, Maina cited a need for “peace, purpose, and professional evolution.” While diplomatically phrased, her comments hinted at deeper challenges behind the scenes. Celebrity management often involves high pressure, long hours, and navigating complex personal and professional dynamics burdens largely invisible to fans.

Addressing the online vitriol directly, she added: “There’s no amount of bullying that can get to me. Especially not from internet idlers and a society obsessed with humbling women.”
Maina emphasized that her decision came after “much thought and reflection,” and that those closest to her were aware of her plans well in advance. She also took a moment to appreciate her time managing Otile, calling it “a journey she’ll always be proud of.”
Now stepping into a new chapter, Maina is reclaiming her peace and agency and reminding her critics that silence should never be mistaken for submission.
